Peter Dutton’s pledge to cancel three offshore wind zones if elected in 2025 is a step in the right direction.
Family First applauds this decision, particularly for its recognition of the economic and social harm caused by these so-called renewable energy projects.
However, Dutton must go further to address the root cause of Australia’s energy and cost of living crises.
The relentless rollout of taxpayer-subsidised renewables has turned out to be far more expensive than promised.
And it has become apparent in recent years no proper cost benefit involving economics and engineering has ever been done to justify the so-called “energy transition”.
Mums and Dads have been left footing the bill through ever rising power prices, now $1000 dearer than when the Albanese Government took office.
Instead, intermittent wind and solar projects have destabilised the grid to the point where Sydney faced third world style power rationing last week.
Cancelling projects like offshore wind is not just about protecting local industries and the environment—it’s about restoring energy affordability and reliability.
Coal and gas remain essential components of Australia’s energy mix, and nuclear energy offers a clean, scalable, and efficient alternative that can deliver stable, affordable power which so-called renewables cannot.
Family First has consistently called for a pause on net zero policies until a proper economic and engineering analysis is conducted.
It’s time to prioritise affordable and reliable energy solutions over ideological commitments to renewables that have failed to deliver.

Peter Dutton’s announcement is a positive first step, but more decisive action is needed.
A comprehensive overhaul of energy policy, including a focus on coal, gas, and nuclear, is the only way to secure Australia’s energy future and bring much-needed relief to families suffering under the current cost of living crisis.
