Family First has called on authorities to reign in Sydney’s Muslim hate preachers calling for the killing of Jews and for Sharia law to be implemented in Australia.
Senate candidate Lyle Shelton said: “There was no place in Australia for incitement of violence or for Sharia law, which is oppressive to women and discriminates against non-Muslims.
“It’s alarming that an Islamic leader, Abu Ousayd, who called for the killing of Jews after October 7, remains free to speak in western Sydney Islamic centres calling for Sharia law for Australia.
“Family First believes Abu Ousayd should have been charged with inciting violence. He’s only been emboldened since making that sermon and is now calling for Sharia law in Australia.
“Where are Australia’s Muslim leaders in denouncing this rogue preacher?”
Mr Shelton also called upon the Albanese Government to follow the lead of Britain and Germany and designate Hizb ut-Tahrir as a terrorist organisation.
Today’s Australian newspaper reported:
Prominent Hizb ut-Tahrir member Wassim Doureihi told his own audience on Friday that it was “not conspiratorial” to suggest that mainstream leaders who led counter-extremist efforts during the height of ISIS – an effort he criticised – were democracy’s biggest supporters.
The Australian also reported:
Abu Ousayd, also known as Wissam Haddad, and Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Australian branch took to pulpits in Sydney’s Canterbury-Bankstown area on Friday to call Muslims in parliament “apostates” and order their followers to boycott elections.
They also criticised the Muslim Vote’s leadership for its historical deradicalisation efforts and current political participation, with Mr Ousayd signalling he wanted an alternative route to power where Muslims could make sharia the dominant form of law in Australia.
“The system is always going to fail if it is not Allah’s,” Mr Ousayd said.
“We want to get to a position where Muslims have power (so that) we can implement more of the (way) in sharia.”
Mr Shelton said Family First was pro-orderly immigration and pro-freedom of religion but believed it was imperative that all migrants integrate and love Australia and its democratic institutions.
“I believe the vast majority of our migrant population do love Australia and all this nation offers them and their children.
“However, we cannot have a situation where some preachers are calling for violence against Jews and Sharia law for Australia.
“There are plenty of countries where Sharia law operates and if that’s what these preachers and their followers want, they should move to one of those countries.
“It’s interesting that no one is migrating to Sharia nations for a better life which is all the more reason we must be vigilant in protecting Australia’s enviable way of life,” Mr Shelton said.
Mr Shelton said it was ironic that he is embroiled in a four-year legal battle after two LGBTIQA+ drag queens sued him for saying they were dangerous role models for children yet Abu Ousayd could use a pulpit to call for the killing of Jews and receive no legal sanction whatsoever.
“Something is wrong in Australia,” Mr Shelton said.
