Ruth Byrne is the Family First candidate for Wendouree and calls the Ballarat region home. She moved from Western Australia in 2011 and lives with her husband on a small hobby farm just outside Ballarat. She loves the beauty, character and strong sense of community that make the region such a special place to live.

Ruth brings broad experience across education, business, leadership and community service. A registered Victorian teacher with a Master of Education Leadership, she previously worked at Ballarat Christian College as a teacher, Director of Music and Director of Christian Studies. She also brings ten years of small-business experience from running a concreting business with her husband in Western Australia and three years of international purchasing experience in Chicago.

Ordained with ACTS Global Churches in 2008, Ruth serves as a full-time minister at Rise Christian Church in Delacombe, within the Wendouree electorate. She leads staff and training and oversees administration, governance, compliance, child safety and local and international missions.

Ruth has a longstanding commitment to vulnerable people. In 2013, she established a ministry providing practical care to women and children caught in the sex industry and grew the work to seven teams across Victoria. She also supports humanitarian and anti-trafficking initiatives overseas and recently helped establish a Pregnancy Help Centre in Ballarat.

As a wife and mother of two adult children, Ruth understands the pressures families face and cares deeply about the Australia we pass to the next generation.

Ruth enters politics to bring practical experience and a strong community voice to education, strong families, freedom of speech and religion. She believes in the protection of human life and raising people out of poverty by pursuing responsible economic policy for Australia’s future.
