Chris McCormack, Legislative Council Candidate for Victoria

Chris McCormack is Family First’s lead candidate for the Northern Victoria Region.

Born and raised on a small farm in northern Victoria, Chris understands the challenges facing regional families, farmers and small communities—and he is standing to give them a stronger voice in the Victorian Parliament.

Chris spent more than two decades working as a photographer and journalist for print media mastheads across three Australian states. In his most recent media role, he worked as a journalist and researcher for News Weekly magazine, analysing domestic and international politics. Through this work, he developed a deep understanding of the policies shaping Victoria’s future and the impact they have on everyday Victorians.

Chris has also worked in transport driving roles and, most recently, in traffic control supporting Victoria’s civil construction industry. This practical experience has given him a grounded understanding of the pressures facing working people, regional industries and local communities.

Why Chris Is Standing?

Chris has spent his career reporting on the decisions that affect Victorian families, farmers and regional communities. He believes Victoria needs leaders who will stand up for sensible policy, protect fundamental freedoms and put the needs of families ahead of political ideology.

He is particularly concerned about the state’s energy direction, the erosion of freedoms, pressures on farming families, and policies that fail to support parents—especially stay-at-home mothers—and the most vulnerable members of society.

Chris’s Priorities:

  • Affordable, reliable energy: Chris supports low-cost baseload power and sensible energy policies that keep electricity affordable for households, businesses and regional industries.
  • Protecting life: He is committed to pro-life legislation that protects every human life from conception to natural death.
  • Supporting families: Chris backs economic policies that do not penalise stay-at-home mothers and that recognise the central role of families in society.
  • Standing up for regional Victoria: He supports landowners’ property rights, access to affordable water and policies that allow farming to remain viable and profitable.
  • Health freedom and privacy: Chris supports respect for doctor-patient privilege and the right of individuals to make informed personal health decisions.
  • Restoring freedoms: He will defend freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of conscience for all Victorians.
  • A Strong Voice for Northern Victoria

Chris brings a rare combination of regional experience, media expertise and practical work experience. He knows how government decisions are made, how they are reported, and how they affect families, farmers and workers across Northern Victoria.

Chris is standing for Family First because he believes Victoria can do better. He will vigorously pursue policies that strengthen families, protect life, restore freedom and improve the quality of life for all Victorians.
