Born and raised in Geelong in a Christian family, Peter worked with the Forests Commission and related Victorian government forest research and management bodies from 1970 until 2010. This included some firefighting experience and travel to many parts of Victoria while based at Orbost and Melbourne. Peter currently lives with his wife in Blackburn.
He is the father of 5 married children and also has 12 grandchildren – Peter supports the flourishing and strengthening of families so they can grow and be a force for good in their communities by following Judeo-Christian values. His children attended Blackburn High School where Peter was president of both the Chaplaincy Committee, and the School Council.
In the wider Whitehorse/Box Hill community Peter has demonstrated his Christian faith by volunteering to help people in need for over 25 years via the inter-church organisation known as LinC – Love in the name of Christ, and is a supporter of many charities and overseas missions.
Peter is a great supporter of marriage – leading to more stability for children - rather than just couples living together. He also thinks that young families, and society in general, need affordable housing, and efforts to reduce the cost of living must be made. Regarding abortion, be believes that work to support mothers to give birth to their ‘unwanted’ babies must be provided, including the option to have their babies adopted.
Regarding environmental issues, he would vote for re-opening State forests for controlled and sustainable timber harvesting. This would not only provide regional employment, but also would lead to reduced imports of timber from SE Asia where timber harvesting and regeneration are not rigorously controlled, as in Victoria.
Peter would push for keeping coal-fired power stations going. He is not a supporter of ‘net zero’, and is not convinced that the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere is causing global warming, making the vast spread of ‘renewables’ an unnecessary waste of resources.
In terms of local Box Hill issues, Peter claims that the Suburban Rail Loop, if completed, would be a $36 billion white elephant; construction must be paused before any more money is wasted.
