Ana Flores, Candidate for Footscray

Born in Cuba, Ana Flores immigrated to Australia with her family in 1972, at the age of nine. Growing up in Australia, she attended public school and worked hard to achieve her dream of becoming a doctor.

For the past 40 years, Ana has dedicated her life to medicine as a General Practitioner, caring for individuals and families and serving her community. Her decades of medical practice have given her firsthand insight into the challenges facing women, children and families.

As a mother and grandmother, Ana believes children are precious, families are the foundation of our society, and parents deserve to have a meaningful say in decisions affecting their children's lives.

Ana is particularly concerned about what she has witnessed during her medical career in relation to abortion. She has seen women experience pressure to terminate pregnancies as late as seven months, including pregnancies involving healthy babies terminated for social reasons, and babies with abnormalities she believes could have been readily treated after birth.

These experiences have deeply influenced her belief that women deserve far more support, information and practical resources when facing difficult pregnancy decisions. Ana is also concerned about the emotional and psychological distress some women experience following abortion, which she believes deserves greater recognition and support. She wants women to be genuinely supported and empowered to make informed choices, rather than feeling pressured or without alternatives.

Ana also believes we must be honest and evidence-based when discussing sex and gender. While she has friends with transgender children and respects the individuals and families involved, she is concerned about gender ideology being presented to primary school children as established fact. Drawing on her medical experience, she is also concerned about children undergoing gender-related medical decisions without their parents' knowledge or consent. She believes parents have a fundamental right to be involved in decisions affecting their children's wellbeing.

Standing with Family First, Ana wants to bring common sense, compassion and a strong commitment to family values back into Victorian politics.

Ana believes children deserve protection, parents deserve respect, women deserve support, and families deserve a government that puts them first.
