Evette Pepper, Candidate for Benambra

Evette Pepper was born in the 1950s and has watched Australia change over seven decades. She remembers a nation that was rich in resources, economically strong and well managed. It had growing industry, more chances to study and work for anyone willing to do it, and it got through global downturns because it was run with common sense. She believes Australia can be that nation again.

Evette is a mother of three and grandmother of nine. She became a single mother at a young age and raised her children while working part time and running several home-based businesses to balance the family budget. That gave her a practical understanding of the pressure families are under and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Her home was built on godly principles and strong family values, and she believes these are fundamental to the wellbeing of children and future generations.

Once her children were grown, Evette went back to study and earned qualifications in counselling. When COVID-19 mandates disrupted her profession in 2020, she turned to community work. Through a Working for Victoria grant, Towong Shire employed her to set up a local art group, studio and exhibition space for artists and residents traumatised by the 2020 Upper Murray bushfires.

In that period she also served with the VCC Emergency Ministry team in evacuation centres in the Upper Murray and at the Wodonga Army Barracks. She joined the team as a volunteer in 2021. When fire struck the region again in 2026, she returned to the Wodonga Evacuation Centre and helped Secondary Impact Assessment Teams in Towong Shire.

Since 2023 Evette has served with HART Ministry International as Chairlady of HMI Australia and as CEO and Board Member of HMI International. She was ordained as a pastor in 2024 and preaches and teaches at conferences and missions in Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Australia.

Evette is standing for Family First because Victorians have had enough. Soaring living costs, rents, taxes, fuel and power bills are pushing businesses to the brink and families out of their homes, even when both parents work several jobs. She wants sound economics and Australian resources used for Australians, not sold offshore. She backs productive farming over poorly planned renewables and wants proper investment in neglected health services and roads.

She will defend freedom of speech and faith, protect the unborn, and fight for every child to flourish socially, educationally, emotionally and spiritually. Our future generations depend on it.
