Peter is a retired civil engineer, having spent his career in numerous management roles in the water industry. He has been married for 46 years and has two adult sons. He had the privilege of growing up in a stable family and is convinced that caring and supportive families provide the best opportunity for children to grow and mature into contributing members of our community.
He has led youth groups, coached sporting teams, and seen the kids and young adults flourish and learn to take their part in our society. He played competitive sport until the age of 48, and believes that the discipline involved in sports training and competition is an excellent preparation for coping with the stresses of life.
Peter is a fierce supporter of free speech, and the right to argue for alternative viewpoints. He believes in hearing all viewpoints, except those that advocate for violence. He opposes the current legislative trend that endeavours to outlaw Christian influences, while allowing all others.
He is a strong supporter of democratic governance, particularly when government interference is minimised to allow individual creativity and freedom. Australia is excessively over-governed and in need of removing green tape, red tape, and other legislation. This is the cause of our high cost of living, our excessive energy costs, and our inflated costs for undertaking business activity.
He believes that the role of government is to provide the appropriate environment for business enterprise to flourish, in order to maintain a strong economy, with minimal government debt. Government debt in Australia is unsustainable. He will tackle government wastage wherever it occurs, believing that government funds should be allocated according to need, not ideology.
Peter is a strong supporter of the sanctity of human life, and that is why he is opposed to abortion on demand. Every child has not only the right to life, but the right to being parented by a mother and father. He strongly supports making adoption possible in Australia again, and opposes any form of commodification or trafficking of babies such as surrogacy.
Australia is a great country, but it desperately needs strong leadership to keep it that way.
