Pietro Di Girolamo [“Digi”] has a life calling for injustice and advocating for those who are struggling with homelessness, poverty, mental health and the pressures of life.
In 2001, Pietro, and his wife Jenny, moved to Newcastle to pioneer a community church to offer hope and care for the people of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie regions.
A self-starter, Pietro helped establish Blue Gum Hills Neighbourhood Watch, Hunter Homeless Connect in 2009, and from 2016-2020 Pietro was the Manager of a homeless program called ‘Our Backyard Car to Home’ based in Lake Macquarie. Over those four years, Pietro and his team provided acute crisis support to over 500 people who were homeless and sleeping in their cars.
Today, Pietro is Operations Manager for New Life Community Relief a charity located in Port Stephens working with the community and navigating the challenges based on cost of living pressures.
The cost of living directly impacts relationships, mental health, housing security, business profitability and the family budget, which is especially challenging for those raising children.
Shortland is a traditional Labor seat and a quick review of Labor’s term in office and one can easily conclude they lack the ability and drive to reverse or solve these economic problems.
Family First will prioritise programs, reduce the size of government and unnecessary expenditure. We need to put more money back into household and business budgets and Family First will help achieve this through cheaper energy.
The solution is simple, and the same approach is taken by everyday Australians to their household budget, don’t spend more than you earn. It’s time to reconsider the trust placed traditionally in the major parties, their economic failings and refocus and on the future of our country.
Pietro’s passion is focussed on Families, Faith, Freedom and quality of life. His vision, and that of the Party, is to return Australian culture to its traditional conservative Christian values.
The son of Italian immigrants, Pietro is no stranger to hard work to achieve success. This inspires him to advocate for small businesses and he has the ear of Aussie battlers. Pietro is not a professional politician, he is fresh and motivated with a broad community and business acumen - an advantage when representing grassroots causes.
At 59 years of age, it is my conviction that the duopoly of Labor and Liberal must stop. Australians have suffered under the Labor government and the attack on families must stop. Educators especially in faith-based school must have the autonomy and authority to teach children biblical truth without fear of persecution.
Pietro enjoys photography, golf and meeting new people. He lives with his wife Jenny, married 32 years. They have a dog and have raised three foster girls in the past 15 years.
