Moussa Taouk, Candidate for Euroa

Born in 1979 in the mountains of Lebanon, Moussa migrated to Australia with his mother and siblings at the age of 8.

Moussa was raised in a Catholic family, where the strong Lebanese family culture harmonized with the Church’s teachings, emphasising the family unit as being the “original cell of social life, (containing) the foundations for freedom, security, and fraternity within society; (that) family life is an initiation into life in society” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, par 2207).

The family is of such importance that “as the family goes, so goes the nation, and so goes the whole world in which we live” (John Paul II, 1986, Perth).

Moussa believes that it is therefore of the highest urgency that if society is to thrive then the family unit must be supported by the social and economic machinery – rather than the other way around. In the Western nations today we see a loss of hope, a lack of meaning, and a spreading social isolation where people increasingly live and die in a state of despair. The weakening and gradual disintegration of the natural family is a major source of the problem; the re-constitution and strengthening of the family being therefore a major part of the remedy.

"The noble cause of politics remains noble only in so far as it supports the cause of the family, and it is degraded and loses credibility and integrity in so far as it hinders it. For this reason, Family First is a political party that is of great benefit to the Australian nation, and it is in that spirit that I stand as a candidate with this party." Moussa Taouk
