Letter to the Churches of Canberra

Letter to the Churches of Canberra

To the Churches of the Australian Capital Territory

As many will be aware the polls for the ACT Election will be opening next Tuesday and voting will extend until 19th Oct 2024.

This election is critical for the survival of the Church and all associated institutions in the ACT.

Already this Government has removed the Cross from the Calvary hospital, after forcibly acquiring it, and is now targeting Christian schools with its anti-faith agenda.

We understand that many churches choose not to be involved in politics, but this government is coming for you and will not rest until the church itself is under their control.

We know that the Church (and this world) remains under the control of Christ alone.

The Government is doing its best to wrest control because its ‘gospel’ is the antithesis of the true Gospel that values family, faith, life and freedom.

They are advocating for their ‘gospel’ with as much religious fervour as we would wish that our people would advocate for the Gospel within our culture.

We have some non-partisan material that you may wish to place in your church newsletters, or on notice boards or even champion from your pulpit throughout the polling period.

The Australian Christian Lobby has published a web-site called ACT Votes that profiles the candidates position with respect to Christian values through a questionnaire categorised by:

  • Sanctity of life
  • Gender
  • Religious freedom
  • Drug reform

Please use the following image to encourage your parishioners to prayerfully consider their vote.

Also the Australian Christians Values Institute has conducted a similar independent profiling of the parties contesting the ACT election against a set of questions of concern to Christians and they have produced the following image that you may wish to promote in a similar fashion.

Finally, Family First has produced this flyer that goes to the heart of the attack on the Church.  You are welcome to print this (or request us to supply you with as many as you desire) and distribute to your parishioners.

Family First makes recommendations on How to Vote. People are welcome, in fact encouraged, to scan the relevant QR code for their district and share that link with their friends and neighbours.

I hope that you will indeed encourage your people to prayerfully consider their vote in this election, guided by any of the above material that your wish to share with them.

Yours Sincerely

Family First
