Family First’s lead candidate for the South Australian Upper House, Deepa Mathew, has reaffirmed her commitment that, if elected, she will move legislation to protect the rights, dignity, and safety of girls and women in South Australia.
This follows disturbing reports highlighted by Women’s Forum Australia of government policy allowing male students who identify as female to use girls’ toilets and changerooms, share sleeping quarters on school camps, and compete in female sporting events.
“Girls deserve better,” Mrs Mathew said. “They deserve the privacy of single-sex facilities, dignity on school camps, and a level playing field in sport. These rights are being eroded by radical gender policies that put ideology ahead of the safety and fairness owed to our daughters.”
Reports include parents being told their daughters must use disabled toilets if they are uncomfortable sharing bathrooms with boys, and a 14-year-old male student recently breaking multiple girls’ school sporting records.
“This is not equality, it is injustice,” Mrs Mathew said. “Biological males should never be allowed into girls’ private spaces or sporting competitions. Family First has always said that protecting women and children must come before appeasing activists.”
Mrs Mathew said that if elected to the Legislative Council next March, she would introduce legislation to restore single-sex protections in schools and beyond.
“Family First will act where the Malinauskas Government has failed. We will enshrine in law the rights of women and girls to safety, privacy, and fairness. Our daughters must never be told they are the problem for wanting their own space.”
Family First calls on all South Australians to join the growing movement demanding common-sense protections for women and girls.
