Prostituted woman’s harrowing stories highlight naivety and recklessness of politicians

Family First is fighting to protect your daughters and sisters from being lured into a sex trade politicians say is fine.

A prostituted woman’s personal stories about harm within the sex trade highlight the grave dangers that young women face, revealing the naivety and recklessness of politicians whose laws enable it.

Hannah Williams, a prostituted woman from Brisbane, has spoken out about the stark realities of the sex trade, a far cry from the glamorous portrayal often seen on social media and talked about by deluded politicians.

Williams warns, "There are a lot of methods we can use in the industry to prevent ourselves being put into a dangerous situation but at the end of the day it’s never 100 per cent. It doesn’t matter if they have security, if they have cameras, it doesn’t matter if they’ve passed your screening. All it takes is for that person to pin your wrists down and hurt you. It’s very quick. Unless you’ve got somebody in the room watching you, something could happen."

She also highlights the unavoidable trauma, saying, "Sometimes certain situations don’t play out the way we wanted them to... those things can really leave us traumatised."

The emotional and psychological toll of such experiences cannot be overstated.

Despite these well-documented dangers, Queensland politicians pushed forward with decriminalising the sex trade earlier this year.

This decision reflects a dangerous naivety and a disregard for the safety and well-being of women and girls.

By liberalising the sex trade, politicians have essentially told our daughters and sisters that entering this perilous industry is fine.

Family First's Stand: Advocating for the Nordic Model

Family First is committed to protecting families from having their daughters and sisters lured into the sex trade.

We strongly advocate for the Nordic model, which criminalises the purchase of sex but decriminalises the prostituted individuals.

This approach focuses on reducing demand while providing support and exit strategies for those trapped in the sex trade.

By targeting the buyers and pimps, the Nordic model aims to protect vulnerable women and girls from trafficking and abuse.

The Nordic model has proven effective in countries like Sweden, where it has significantly reduced human trafficking and improved the safety and well-being of prostituted women. It is a balanced approach that addresses the root cause of the issue—demand—while offering protection and support to the victims.

The upcoming Queensland election is a pivotal moment for Family First to champion the Nordic model and advocate for the safety and dignity of women.

The recent changes in Queensland law demonstrate a reckless disregard for the safety of young women.

Family First remains committed to advocating for the Nordic model, which offers a proven path to protect women and girls from the dangers of trafficking and abuse.
