Family First believes in the freedom to have responsible gun ownership.
Family First:
- Supports lawful and responsible shooting and hunting activities, including shooting sports;
- Acknowledges the positive community impact and inclusive nature of shooting sports. Based on a primacy of safety, whilst firmly acknowledging the importance of responsible and lawful gun ownership and usage to safer communities;
- Firmly supports all law enforcement activities that decrease the prevalence and impact of illicit firearm access and trade;
- Recognises the importance of hunting in reducing the impact of animal pest populations and the associated positive impacts on the environment, agriculture and animal welfare outcomes;
- Encourages the engagement of all levels of government with shooting and hunting representative groups when considering policy amendment that affects firearm regulation and use;
- Supports maintaining the current National Firearms Agreement (NFA) that constitutes a national approach to the regulation of firearms and supports genuine reasons for firearm ownership and usage;
- Opposes departure from the NFA, for example: Western Australia’s excessive and onerous changes to gun laws in the state (by the ALP).
