MEDIA RELEASE
Family First today announced local father of five Matt Emerson as its candidate in the Werribee by-election.
Mr Emerson, who works locally in IT, said Family First would fight to cut power prices, protect faith-based schools and fight for the reinstatement of two genders.
“The net zero policies of Liberal, Labor and the Greens are hurting Werribee families through higher electricity bills and cost of living,” Mr Emerson said.
“For years, Family First has been fighting the dangerous child-harming gender fluid ideology promoted by Liberal, Labor and the Greens.
“Family First is also fighting for parents to have the freedom to educate their children in their values, following unprecedented attacks on the hiring policies of faith-based schools.”
Mr Emerson’s campaign will be launched today by Family First Senate candidate for Victoria and former Liberal MP Bernie Finn.
Family First also announced that its second preference will go to the Liberals’ Steve Murphy.
Bernie Finn said that on this occasion the Liberals had pre-selected someone who aligned closely with Family First’s values.
“While Liberal Party policy on gender, power prices and resolve to fight for the freedom of faith-based schools has a long way to go, Steve Murphy is someone Family First is happy to allocate a number two preference.
Mr Finn said voters could enhance the power of their vote by voting 1 for Family First and then allocating their second preference to the candidate of their choice.
“In this way a Family First voter’s vote has even more potency than someone who simply votes for one of the establishment parties,” Mr Finn said.
